Configure WallCooler for PPP adapters (3G, dial-up & DSL modems)

Introduction

Using WallCooler on a PPP connection (3G Card, dialup & DSL Modems) requires additional configuration. This is also true for some USB adapters.

It is a simple and quick additional step involving the installation of Microsoft Loopback Adapter.

This does not require any additional download as it is part of Windows XP already.

Install Microsoft Loopback Adapter
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. If you are in Classic view, click Switch to Category View under Control Panel in the left pane.
  3. Double-click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Next.
  4. Under See Also in the left pane, click Add Hardware,and then click Next.
  5. Click Yes, I have already connected the hardware, and then click Next.
  6. At the bottom of the list, click Add a new hardware device, and then click Next.
  7. Click Install the hardware that I manually select from a list, and then click Next.
  8. Click Network adapters, and then click Next.
  9. In the Manufacturer box, click Microsoft.
  10. In the Network Adapter box, click Microsoft Loopback Adapter, and then click Next.
  11. Click Finish.
Configure Microsoft Loopback Adapter
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Network Connections.
  3. Double-click on connection with the Device Name called Microsoft Loopback Adapter.
  4. Click on Properties button & scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  5. Double-click on double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  6. Configure the addresses as per the screenshot (IP address, subnet, gateway & DNS server):

  7. Click OK and OK in the previous window.
Note:
You can choose any address within the range 169.254.1.0 to 169.254.254.255. Only make sure you enter the same value for the IP address, gateway & DNS.
If you wish, you could also let Windows assign the IP automatically, but it might just take a bit longer to connect.
Restart your Computer
  1. Restart your computer.
  2. WallCooler will sign-in automatically after the restart and detect the adapter.
The computer needs to be restarted after installing MS Loopback Adapter for WallCooler to detect it.
